　　これまで国内外のアートプロジェクトに多数参加し、すでに多くのファンを持つカトウチカですが、今回は初めて本格的に

コマーシャル・ギャラリーにて発表をいたします。

　カトウチカは東京芸術大学絵画科を2002年に卒業後、韓国・ソウルをはじめ映像表現に関する先鋭的で意欲的な企画展

に招待され精力的に発表を続けているアーティストです。彼女は、空間に映像と写真を配置し、イメージと思考のネットワーク

を作り上げていきます。そして、そこに観客が入り込むことで観る者は作品と一体し、今度は観られる側になるといった、従来

のヴィデオ・アートの中には収まらないスケール感の大きな表現が魅力の一つとなっています。

　本展覧会は、私たちの空間を満たしているリアルで実体的な表層と、その下部に潜む心象世界の狭間を美しく描き出す試

みと言えます。無軌道に漂う微細な光と音や、圧倒的な光の粒子を注がれて立ち現われる人や物の姿を、たゆたう時間の流

れと共に映し出し、眠っていた網膜の「記憶」を覚醒します。Moving Image＝映像という時間軸を独自の感性で表現方法とし

て持ち込み、　他の表現手段では決して達成することができない美の領域に観る者を誘います。

　会場にはスティル写真を含む映像作品3〜4点を展示いたします。ヴィデオ・インスタレーションの可能性をさらに拡げる

カトウチカの映像世界にどうぞご期待ください。

Azabu Art Salon Tokyo will present the solo video art installation show Between by Chika KATO

beginning the 11th of January through the 9th of February 2008. Kato is an innovative video artist

who is involved in domestic video art exhibitions and overseas art projects. This is the artist’s first

solo show at a commercial art space.

　　Since Kato graduated and received her BA in Fine Arts at Tokyo National University of Fine Arts

& Music　in 2002, she has taken a keen interest in experimental arts projects related to moving images,

for example, Nomad Theater Series at BankART in Yokohama, Japan, and Move on Asia at Gallery Loop in

Seoul, Korea. Kato’s work is a deliberate juxtaposition of moving images with related still photographs.

The audience　is forced　to get into the installation space abruptly; as a result the viewer is a part of

the work at the same time.This unique installation style is exceptional among current conventional video

art, and is very outstanding　at this point in her career.

　　For the exhibit Between, Kato uses video to create innermost and tranquil visual sensations from an

imaginary space between the surface of our perceptible and factual world, and the metaphysical inner world.

Flickering light and sound, with a flux of time, are lyrical, and eloquent enough to give the viewers rumination

on ideas of time and movement. These moving images are animated by her suggestions of the ephemeral

nature　and their fleeting reality. Kato focuses on making visible a realm of our imagination, thus allowing

us to travel a　territory which other art methods can never reach.

　　Three or four distinct video works with still photos will be presented at the gallery.
